Black and white are the colours of photography. To me they symbolize the alternatives of hope and despair to which mankind is forever subjected. Robert Frank

“This was a very different ‘getting ready’ for me. It was a moment that took me back to my quest for the perfect Black and White, a quest that began with my first B&W roll in 1999. On that day, everything aligned perfectly – the light was just right, casting soft shadows and sharp highlights that brought out the depth and texture of each scene. And the people, oh, the people couldn’t have been more perfect. Each expression, each gesture, each glance captured was an authentic reflection of humanity in its purest state.

Whenever I return to this particular folder, I’m flooded with the emotions I was experiencing that day. I remember the adrenaline coursing through my veins, the excitement bubbling in my stomach, the deep and unwavering knowledge that I was witnessing and capturing something truly unique. I knew, even in that moment, that this would be a milestone in my journey as a photographer – the first of many, the last of none, the moment that would define all others from that point forward.

It was also the first time I had the pleasure of working with my favourite Make-up Artist. Their skill and creativity added another layer of depth to the images, enhancing the natural beauty of the subjects and bringing my vision to life.

Most of the time, I find myself revisiting some of the things I truly admire, whether it’s through the pages of Photobooks, the narratives of documentaries, the insights from interviews, or the melodies of a good music album. These sources of inspiration fuel my creativity and drive my passion for photography.

But it’s also essential for me to revisit the shots where I really felt I was close to my real ‘me’. These are the moments where I felt a deep connection with the subject, where I was able to capture not just an image, but a piece of a story, a fragment of a soul. These are the shots that remind me why I fell in love with photography in the first place, and they serve as a constant source of inspiration and motivation as I continue on my journey.”
