“When you are studying Jazz best thing to do is listen to records & live music as much you can & absorb everything.”

– Carla Bley

And then, you improvise. But that’s the key, you first master the technique, the vocabulary, the history, the culture and only then you set yourself loose. “Master your instrument, master the music & then forget all that & just play” something that Charlie Parker used to say the same thing I try to do with my work, you can plan way ahead and even know by experience the progression of a wedding day, but you have to live it, improvise and focus on your vision. Absorb the mood and the feelings expressed through the emotions and light, color is fundamental in my work. Without it would be an abstract vision, that’s where black and white really shines. Writing with light is very much like playing jazz. You have to feel it.
